696 First of all, it was hard to like or sympathize with any of the main characters - Ellen is an emotional wreck who can't seem to get through the least upsetting experience without crying, becoming nauseated, or fainting. She doesn't deal with any of her problems (like her marriage) and she doesn't seem to have any insight at all.The other characters are under-developed and one-dimensional.The plot is unbelievable, even for a "ghost" story. I can't give examples without spoilers, so I'll just say that these 3 women are very unobservant.They apparently have unlimited amounts of money, renovations on the mansion are done within 2 weeks, fairy lights for Halloween are plugged in and work even though the electricity hasn't been turned on yet, and various neighbors tramp through the yard and house to yell at people to "be quiet". Just your average life, right? Oh, and no one ever calls the police, yet the neighbors have guns and crowbars for weapons.Finally, there is the idea promited that witches kill animals to conduct spells, using their bones to make "magickal powder". That's not ever done in any tradition of witchcraft.All in all, it was a disjointed, difficult book to get through. Can't recommend it.
