I have been a growing fan of Jessa Kane for a few months now, slowly reading my way through her sexy little literary offerings. And I have to say, for the most part her books are fantastic diversions always packed full of over the top plots, obsessively driven alpha males, and strong, emotionally intelligent females, all of which usually coincide with yummy story arcs stuffed full of deliciously kinky, blush inducing subject matter. However, Kane is also as frustrating as she is addictive because for every two books she publishes that are well written and boundary pushing, she releases one that is as ill-conceived as it is typo filled.Sadly, her latest release, “The Way She Burns” falls into the latter category, being more creepy than sexy, and filled to bursting with sloppy, typo-filled writing that makes one think a first draft got mistakenly published instead of a finished, fully edited version.Here Kane gives us the story of Chloe and Sebastian, Chloe being an eighteen year old orphan desperate to find a way to care for her younger brother and survive in a town rife with sexual crime and poverty. A woman tormented by her own body and the men who work alongside her in the town’s factory. Men wanting to use her body in every form possible, pursuing rapists from which she is forced to flee. She runs to the only other place she knows, the home of the man who saved her life when she comes perilously close to falling off a cliff when she was thirteen. And the lifesaver himself, Sebastian, a reclusive billionaire who has lost all faith in human kind, now a bitter hateful man who reacts cruelly toward Chloe in her greatest time of need, an act he quickly regrets when the full knowledge of what is before him becomes known during a most indecent moment.What follows is a story, that while interesting in concept, may give you the shivers in reality as it contains enough consent grey area to make even seasoned kinksters uncomfortable.This is a story steeped once again in Kane’s trademark Daddy-dom flare, however unlike her other Daddy books here Kane pushes things into uncharted and confusing territory by adding in a huge dose of undiagnosed hypersexual disorder. Afflicting Chloe with a physically debilitating, mentally draining, all-consuming need that she doesn’t understand and deems herself “wicked” over. A frightening predicament the author takes and twists into a craving that can only be satisfied by Sebastian and forcibly melds it with little girl dynamics, and far more baby talk then I ever want to endure during a highly sexual moment. It is a plotline that even I, someone who is hardly ever truly shocked by anything anymore, had a hard time swallowing as the beginning scenes are so dubious on Sebastian’s end I had trouble believing his sincerity beyond that opening sexual scene.As the story progresses you watch Chloe struggle to understand her body’s overwhelming need for sexual relief. It is a deeply traumatizing malady that has you quickly questioning the literary path Kane takes here. As it is an unfortunate misrepresentation of an actual disorder for which the validity and basis are still debated about within the medical and psychiatric communities, a disorder with often far reaching consequences and is as misunderstood and dismissed by professionals as it is judged by everyday folk. So to trivialize it in the way it is here and then smash it together with a daddy/little story ends up creating something more creepy than sexy. This ick factor coupled with the typos and other writing issues made this one super disappointing. KU subscription.There were several times while reading this short little hot story from Jessa Kane that I found myself wondering what century we were in. The over the top, old-fashioned dialogue leeched all the hotness from the story. It’s a shame, too, because I was looking forward to the trope of the guy providing for the woman in exchange for sex. I haven’t read a good one of those in a while, and I thought this author could really deliver on that one. She did not.The MMC, Sebastian, is, for some reason we never discover unless I skimmed over it, a recluse with walls around his house. Years ago he saved the FMC, whose name I can’t even remember, from falling off the cliff near his mansion and now she has decided to leave her toddler brother in Sebastian‘s care simply because, I don’t know, he has money and she remembers him fondly from saving her life. Sebastian, of course, is a real jerk at first, demanding sex for shelter for her and the boy, and she has a kink where she is always in lust or heat. Really, this is just terrible.And I mean what was his excuse for letting the town get so bad that people were starving and in such dire needs?I don’t know if the author is sitting somewhere with a friend laughing at readers who will swill anything she delivers. She obviously is prolific in pushing out these dirty little stories, and I admit I have really enjoyed most of them, maybe 75% to 80% of them. She likes to push the envelope, which I really enjoy watching her do, but she’s already done the daddy-little-girl thing, and this one was just so strange. The characters were right out of a 1950s paperback, well except for the dirty talk, which was really pretty lame.Anyway, as long as she is on Kindle Unlimited, I will keep reading her, although I did skip the burly, beefy, beer gut guy series. If I’m going to read online romance, I want rock hard abs and pecs and biceps. Sorry. But I can’t see myself paying individually for these stories.
